DIY Laundry Detergent
DIY Laundry Detergent
Yep, I make my own laundry detergent. I haven’t bought any laundry detergent from the store in over a year and I don’t regret it. Cleans just the same, smells just as good, and it’s PENNIES PER LOAD. Yes you read that right. PENNIES PER LOAD.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
Arm & Hammer Pure Baking Soda
20 Mule Team Borax
Purex Crystals Laundry Enhancer
Oxi Clean Stain Remover Powder
Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap
You can get all these items at Walmart or even at your local supermarket. You’ll spend over $20 for the stuff but you’ll have enough detergent to last more than 6 months, maybe a year! Compare that to the once a month $20 purchase of some name brand detergents! It’s also supposed to be HE safe because it’s low suds. Keep that in mind – it’s low suds but it still washes just as well.
Instructions:
(3) Fels-Naptha Bars
20 Mule Team Borax, 4 lbs 12 oz
Oxi-Clean Versatile Stain Remover, 3 lb
Purex Crystals, any scent you like, 28 oz
Arm & Hammer Pure Baking Soda, 4 lb
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, 55 oz
Now, what you want to do is either grate the bars of soap or chop it up into small chunks first then put it in a chopper. I have one that I bought at walmart for $20 or so. TOTALLY worth it. This is the one I bought: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ninja-Express-Chopper/16913480
Mix up the grated soap and all the other ingredients together in a large bucket with a lid. Then you just use a couple of tablespoons of the stuff per load. “What?” you’re asking. Yep. A couple of tablespoons is all you need.
Enjoy the feeling of saving money! Cha-CHING!!
